PETITION FOR MORE TRAVEL RESTRICTIONS
The number of visitors arriving in the Western Isles, has prompted a petition, for tighter enforcement of the Scottish Governments travel restrictions.
Due to second home owners and camper vans arriving in the islands, Catriona Morrison from Harris has set up a petition at Change.org, to campaign for stricter enforcement, suggesting police should be making checks at ferry ports, to assist Cal Mac’s essential travel regulations, as per Scottish Government guidelines.
A Cal Mac spokesman said “The ferry firm is carrying out strict controls, as implemented by the Scottish Government. By actively turning people away. It is, important to note that we do not have police or civic powers. If even stricter measures are required, then this is a matter of Government policy and would require a political solution.
A spokesperson for Police Scotland said: "In relation to any specific concerns, we will continue to respond and follow agreed processes."
